"Writing songs is a way of sticking our small colored tile in the great and multicultural mosaic of life"

Giorgio Abrate, is an "organic" singer-songwriter originally from Turin. He uses this definition because it well represents his belief that it is important to rediscover music played by real people, without clicks, sequences, autotune or virtual instruments.
Music entered his existence when he was eight and emulated a schoolmate and began taking guitar lessons.
In addition to the guitar, he studied piano, flute and opera singing.
As for the latter, he has played several baritone roles until obtaining, in 1994, a primary role in Felice Lattuada's opera Le Preziose Ridicole performed at the Teatro Carignano in Turin and at the Teatro Coccia of Novara with the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Regio of Turin.
Later, taking a sabbatical from work, he studied Jazz Singing at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In 2019, he rediscovered his passion for the guitar, resuming his study of guitar and jazz harmony with prominent musicians on the Italian scene with great dedication and continuity.
In the same period, after publishing the short novel entitled Happiness is measured in seconds, Abrate landed on his current songwriting activity, thus converging his two great interests in music and literature.
Abrate defines his project as "Canzoni 50e50", meaning, with this expression, the equal dignity that, for him, both music and words cover within a song. The artistic vision of the Turin singer-songwriter, in fact, differs from songs in which the music is only the background of a poem, or vice versa from songs in which the lyrics are a pure pretext to sing a melody.
At the end of 2024, he released an album of 11 original songs sung in Italian entitled Un albero da amare, alluding to the tree of life: a symbol of birth and rebirth, which, in his case, coincides with the rebirth represented by the newfound passion for music and with it of life itself.
The song QB from this album was awarded in 2024 in the "Lyrics and Performance" category at the singer-songwriter review La canzone che verrà of the Teatro del Navile in Bologna.
His song Nozomi was also a finalist in 2025, in the “Original Songs” category, of the International Festival Je so Pazzo held in Marino (Rome).
After the release of the album, Abrate started the live activity by forming a trio in which his voice and guitar are combined with double bass and drums / percussion. Even during his live performances, the Turin singer-songwriter reserves extreme importance to words, introducing each song with the context from which it originated and citing its source of inspiration: an autobiographical fact experienced in the first person, a literary episode, a film scene or a moment of life observed and entangled in memory.

He does not write his songs thinking of aligning himself with the contemporary sound or the songwriter sound of the 70s - 90s: in fact, he wants to have complete expressive freedom to tell his stories, exploring different styles and genres, mixing typically songwriting ballads with colors and rhythms such as: Bossa, Reggae, Funky and Blues.
Abrate's musical references are made up of musicians and authors who, like him, give the same importance to music and text: from Ivano Fossati to Lucio Dalla, from Niccolò Fabi to Avion Travel up to international artists such as Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Peter Gabriel, Sting.
Writing songs allows him to leave a small mark, a trace of his passage. Furthermore, he is convinced that the songwriter, like any artist, can be a mirror that allows the listener to focus on things that concern him deeply, but on which he had not dwelt, distracted by the background noise of everyday life.
At the end of 2025, Abrate began pre-production on his second album of original songs which will be entitled: Di quanti azzurri può essere il cielo.
The title of the album derives from a verse of a song that will be contained in the album itself, Nelle mie foto, which alludes to the multiple rhythmic and stylistic inspirations that animate the songs of the album, but also the concept of inclusiveness and social multiculturalism very important to him. In addition, the title is also a tribute to the famous song by Rino Gaetano Ma il Cielo è sempre più blu.
